Spring is in the Air!!

Well, spring is upon us, the smell of newly cut grass for me is the first sign, but then again it was snowing on my run last Monday. I am back in the swing of things after the horrible strep throat, I would not wish that on my own worst enemy. I had a great week of training especially as I was doing 8x1000 on the track in the pouring down rain. Then I had to do a long run and decided to run the half-marathon yesterday in downtown Knoxville. Great day for a run and was planning to just do a recovery run, then an unexpected surprise happened and these are the moments in life to live for. At mile 4 it was about four of us, all runners who have been friends for a while then all the sudden this girl joins our group to be the first female in the race, so we decided to help her. By this I mean run with her, encourage her, and just let her sit in and feed off of us. Well at mile 9 it was just her and I and so I just ran with her and at this point I could tell she was starting to struggle, I slowed to get her to catch back up and was going to really push her to get her to the finish line. Her former personal best was like 1:29 and she traveled from Indiana to do this race. I knew we were on pace to smash her pr if she could just hold it together for a couple more miles. Well we continued to run and I just keep telling her stay relaxed and keep rolling and she did, I was going to let her enjoy her moment and go to the finish line by herself and she was like nope, you helped me and we will cross together. And so we did, I am not sitting here writing to brag about myself, I just was honored to be apart of something so special to this young lady. Never met her will proably will never see her again, but for 13 miles I was able to give back to a sport that has given me so much. It was so rewarding for me to just run along and help this young lady in her first half-marathon realize a dream, and for me it was a joy and something I will cherish for a long time. To be able to give is an amazing feeling and I am so grateful to all those who have helped me along the way, no one does it alone, there are so many out there and to all I say THANKS, never stop believing. DREAM BIG!!!!!! First Race is on Sunday, a duathlon which will consist of a 3 mile run 15 mile bike and 3 mile run, will let you know the results after.

Very sweet Eric. I wish I had taken your all's photo! I saw you running with her. Dang! It would have been a perfect shot for your blog. Sorry I was not quick on the draw. I'm looking forward to doing your swim sessions!
